Across Fairport's roughly 2,515 households, we see the same handful of failures repeat because so many houses share the same 1938-era door dimensions and hardware. Rust at the bottom panel seam is common - steel that old, in a cold-severe climate, corrodes from the inside of the seam out, and by the time it shows on the surface the panel is usually further gone than it looks. Cables fray at the drum where they've been re-wound one too many times over the decades. Hinges crack at the roller stem after enough freeze-thaw cycles work the metal fatigue.
Extension springs, where they haven't already been replaced with torsion, are the other recurring issue - they stretch and lose tension unevenly, which throws the door off-balance and puts extra load on the opener. That opener, if it's also original hardware, often struggles years before the springs actually let go, because it's been compensating for imbalance the whole time. None of this is unique to any one house, but it's consistent enough across the older stock here that it's usually the first thing we check.
